Umberto Eco (January 5, 1932–February 19, 2016) was an Italian semiotician, novelist and cultural critic.

Eco was born in Alexandria, Piedmont, in northwestern Italy.

It is famous for its beautiful scenery and rich history and cultural heritage.

As he strolls through the streets of Alexandria, he can feel the echoes of the past intertwined with the present.

He encounters architecture spanning the centuries, from medieval fortresses to elegant Renaissance buildings.

Studying at Turin University.

The University of Turin, not far from Alexandria, is where Eco wrote Thomas Aquinas' aesthetic thesis in 1954 (age 23).

Eco begins his academic journey for intellectual growth at the University of Turin, founded in the 15th century.

The medieval philosophy, aesthetics, and literary theories studied here form a crucial framework in shaping Eco's multidimensional perspective.

He walks through the historic campus and is immersed in the atmosphere of intellectual curiosity and creativity.

In the years 1961 to 1964, Eco began writing about semiotics and popular culture.

Visual communication and semiotic guerrilla warfare (1965–1975).

From 1965 to 1975, Eco's interests shifted towards visual communication and what he called "semiotic guerrilla warfare.“
