The origin of the Hebrew language can be traced back to Eber, the great-grandson of Shem(Genesis 10:21).

 

The name Eber means ‘one who crossed over,’

 

Eber is an important figure in the genealogy of both Noah's son Shem and Abraham.

 

He evokes the image of Abraham, who crossed over from Ur of the Chaldeans to Canaan under God's guidance.

 

Assyrian king Sargon II conquered Israel (B.C.722) and the ten tribes of Israel disappeared from history with no recorded whereabouts.

 

The Kingdom of Judah also fell to Babylon(B.C.586) under King Nebuchadnezzar II, who created a forced resettlement zone called Yehuda.

 

The Hebrew name Yehuda means Judah in English.

 

Jews are descendants of the mixed tribes of Benjamin and the people of Judah.

 

While they have Hebrew origins, they are not necessarily pure-blooded Hebrews due to centuries of intermarriage.

 

So is Jesus a Jew or a Hebrew?

 

There have been numerous debates about race in Christianity since its early days.

 

However, Jesus' genealogy puts the controversy to rest as he is described as a Hebrew and a descendant of Abraham(Matthew 1:1).

 

In the Old Testament, I imagine the appearance of Jesus.

 

Isaiah 53:2 describes Jesus as having a humble appearance, like a tender shoot growing out of dry ground, with no form or majesty that would attract us to him.

 

Based on the characteristics of Hebrews, it is speculated that his hair was reddish and his eyes were blue, as opposed to Jews who typically have black hair and eyes.

 

However, after thousands of years of intermixing, the racial characteristics of Jews have become diverse.

 

They are now mainly distinguished by their communities' traditions, beliefs, customs, and regions, such as Ashkenazi, Sephardi, and Mizrahi.

예수는 유대인인가 히브리인인가.

 

히브리Hebrew의 어원은 이브리Eber로 셈의 증손자 에벨에 뿌리를 둔다(창10:21).

 

‘건너편’ 혹은 ‘건너온 자’를 뜻한다.

 

에벨은 노아의 아들 셈과 아브라함의 계보를 잇는 중요한 인물이다.

 

하나님의 인도로 갈대아 우르에서 가나안에 건너온 아브라함을 연상시킨다.

 

앗수르의 사르곤 2세는 이스라엘(B.C933-721)을 멸한다(B.C.722).

 

이스라엘의 10부족은 역사에서 사라져 어디로 갔는지 기록이 없다.

 

유다왕국(B.C933-586) 또한 신바빌로니아에 망한다(B.C586).

 

네부카드네자르 2세는 예후다Yehuda라는 강제거주구역 게토Ghetto를 만든다.

 

히브리어 예후다는 영어로 유다Judah를 의미한다.

 

유대인은 유다 왕국을 구성한 베냐민 부족과 유다 지역 사람들과의 혼혈이다.

그렇다면 예수는 유대인인가 히브리인인가?

예수는 유대인이 아니라 흰 피부와 푸른 눈에 붉은 머리칼의 백인계통 히브리인이다. 야곱의 아내 라헬이 요셉을 낳고, 그 요셉의 유다지파에서 예수가 나온다는 것은 상징이다(창 49:9-12. 22-26).

유대인은 한자로 '유태인(猶太人)'이다. '유태(猶太)'는 '큰개견(犭)'과 '우두머리 추(酋)'에 '클태(太)'로 풀이된다. 큰개자리별 '시리우스(天狼星)'는 '개'를 상징한다. 영어로 개과의 동물 'Canine(Cain·伏·姜·江·戌·戎·로물루스와 레무스)'은 희생(犧牲)을 한다. 한자 작명을 한 이는 이 뜻을 알고서 했을까.
