Gang Se-hwang (1713-1791) is the master of Kim Hong-do.

He does not have particularly good looks.

He paints self-portraits as he looks in reality.

He doesn't care about trivial matters due to his extensive knowledge and ambitious aspirations.

His calligraphy is as excellent as Wang Xizhi's, his paintings as magnificent as Gu Kaizhi's, and his writing as good as Han Tae-ji's.

 

Wang Xizhi(307-365), a calligrapher from Eastern Jin, completes the three styles of Haeseo, Haengseo, and Chaseo as artistic calligraphy.

He establishes the status of calligraphy as an art form.

His writing is elegant, powerful, and noble.

Go Kaizhi, a painter from Dongjin, gains fame by painting a picture of the Indian Vimalakirti on the walls of Wagwansa Temple in Nanjing.

He excels in portrait painting, reaching the pinnacle of Chinese figure painting.

Han Tae-ji (768-824), a literary figure of the Tang Dynasty, pioneers free-style ancient Chinese literature.

He is a forerunner of Daoxue, pioneering the style of prose writing.

 

Gang Se-hwang signs his name with the pseudonym "Gwangji" which means shining brighter than these three.

He is known for putting up a splendid facade like no one else in history.

표암豹菴 강세황(1713-1791)은 김홍도의 스승이다.

얼굴이 잘생긴 편이 아니다.

생긴 그대로를 자화상으로 직접 그린다.

대단한 학식과 기특한 포부가 있기에 아랑곳 하지 않는다.

글씨는 왕희지만큼, 그림은 고개지만큼, 글은 한퇴지만큼 잘 한다 여긴다.

동진東辰의 서예가 왕희지王羲之(307-365)는 해서·행서·초서의 3체를 예술적 서체로 완성한다.

예술로서 서예의 지위를 확립시킨다.

필체가 전아典雅하고 힘차며 귀족적이다.

동진의 화가 고개지顧愷之는 남경의 와관사瓦官寺 벽면에 인도의 유마상維摩像을 그려 이름을 날린다.

초상화를 잘 그려 중국회화사상 인물화의 최고봉이다.

당나라의 문학가 한퇴지韓退之(768-824)는 자유로운 형의 고문古文을 창도한다.

산문의 문체를 개척한 도학道學의 선구자이다.

이 세 지之보다 빛난다光 자부해 광지光之라 자字를 짓는다.

강세황은 역대 최고로 멋지게 잘난 척을 한다.

정조는 부스럼 치료를 위해 탕약을 먹는다. 탕약의 미량 독극물은 면역력을 급속히 떨어뜨린다. 창경궁 영춘궁에서 정조의 붕어를 지켜본 사람은 영조의 계비 정순왕후이다. 청 황실(嘉慶帝) 또한 독살에 개입한다. 정조의 실학자(유학파)와 도화서 화원을 통한 청·일 첩보활동을 위협으로 판단한다. 정조의 꿈, 영원한 제국은 무산된다.
